After writing about the 10 largest banks in the world, one of the surprising facts was the lack of European banks on the list. So this post goes a little deeper to highlight the largest banks in Europe. These 10 banks collectively have $8.6 trillion of assets, $4.1 trillion of loans outstanding and $4.4 trillion of customer deposits based on the latest available information. The below bar chart summarizes the top 10 banks in Europe by total assets.

Unlike the top banks globally there’s a good level of representation across the region when it comes to the top 10  banks in Europe. The one notable omission is France, clearly one of the biggest economies in Europe, does not make the top 10.
